Biography:

Don Foster is a former teacher and management consultant. He has been a Liberal Democrat MP since famously beating Tory heavyweight Chris Patten back in 1992.

In 1997, the Bath electorate rewarded him for his hard work by returning him with an increased majority of over 9,000.

Don is married to Tor and they live in Batheaston, in the Bath constituency. They have two children - and one grandson.

As a local party activist he was a founder member of the Avon Liberal Democrats and an Avon County Councillor. He was the leader of the Party group on the Council and Chair of the county's education committee.

Don is Liberal Democrat team leader in the House of Commons on matters concerning Culture, Media, and Sport. Previously, Don has also been the Party Spokesman for Transport and Local Government and the Regions, in addition to Education and Social Justice.

Don supports a number of local charities, including Ted's Big Day Out and Julian House. His main national charity is WaterAid. Apart from his recent visit to Ethiopia to see some of WaterAid's local projects at first hand, Don does an in-depth sporting commentary for the annual fund-raising duck race on the River Avon.

Don's other interests include Third World Issues; he is a member of Amnesty International and the Child Poverty Action Group, and he enjoys sport, music, travelling and reading.
